The Structure

hero-property.jpg

Kubu Pilan is built from black steel and ironwood — materials chosen for their strength, longevity, and quiet presence within the landscape. The steel framework rises from the valley floor, its dark lines echoing the volcanic rock beneath, while ironwood panels and teak detailing bring warmth and texture to the interior.

The structure is deliberately minimal — open to the elements where possible, enclosed only where necessary. Large openings frame the jungle canopy on every side, dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior. The home does not sit on the land so much as it grows from it.

The Valley

The property occupies an entire pocket valley — a natural depression in the volcanic terrain, carved over millennia by water and tectonic movement. The soil here is rich and dark, fed by centuries of volcanic activity, and the vegetation is dense, layered, and constantly regenerating.

Surrounding the home on all sides, the jungle creates a complete enclosure of green — towering palms, broad-leafed tropical plants, and ancient trees draped in moss and fern. The valley floor is crossed by a small seasonal stream, and the air carries the constant sound of water, birdsong, and wind through the canopy.

This is the most remote of the three Kubu properties — deeper in the jungle, further from the road, and closer to the raw landscape of central Bali.
